How to Kill a Vampire

Ingredients

1oz Beetroot Simple Syrup (recipe below)

1oz Unruly Vodka from Wayward

1oz Garstin’s Plunder from Wayward

1/4oz Lemon Juice

2 Drops Forgotten Trails Bitters from Apothecary

1 Drop General Ambrose’s Aromatic Bitters from Apothecary

Method

Add everything into your shaker with lots of ice and stir until diluted and very chilled. Garnish with a slice of candied beetroot and serve to whom ever you suspect of being a vampire.

Beetroot Simple Syrup

For the simple syrup I mixed equal parts water and sugar (half white and half brown sugar) along with about a cup of beets sliced into quarters. I let that simmer on medium heat until the beets where cooked through and the syrup was the consistency of maple syrup, at this point I added 2 whole cloves and a pinch of cinnamon and let simmer for another 5 minutes on low heat. Strain out the beets and cloves, at this point you can leave it as is, but I wanted it to be a bit thicker and have more colour so I took the skin off of one beet and blended it into the simple syrup. Put this mixture through a fine strainer to take out the bigger pieces and pour into a jar and refrigerate.
